San Diego Comic-Con begins tomorrow, and attendees can expect tons of gaming. PlayStation will be in full force, and the public will be able to get their hands on upcoming PS3 games. For many, this will be their first opportunity to get their hands on games like LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM Confrontation and more.

PlayStation.blog has all the info on first party games that will be showcased. However, that’s not all gamers can find at Comic-Con. Tomorrow’s American PSN update is looking to be pretty big. Our good pal Alexander Sliwinski over at Joystiq has just discovered that a demo for PixelJunk Eden will be arriving tomorrow in the US, a week before the full game arrives on the 31st. Our hands are already clenched around our controllers in anticipation. Who knew that the PixelJunk series would have us on tenter-hooks for the next release? After PixelJunk Racers, not us.

There’s another fairly specific reason why we’re looking forward to PixelJunk Eden; we’ve peaked, trophy-wise. We’ve been desperate for another game to satisfy our growing addiction for the glittering prizes, but Eden is the first game to support them since launch. The demo almost certainly won’t include any, but at least it’ll give us a week headstart to get our practice in.

Square Enix has a habit of showing trailers of their latest masterpieces in closed theaters at events most of us will never get to attend. So what’s a fan like you to do? Why, you can send a spy to the event! User ryaris over at Photobucket has a recorded version of the Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer from Jump Festa 2007. The video quality of this PlayStation 3 exclusive clip isn’t bad at all, and it is definitely worth a look. We won’t spoil anything else for you, so take a look for yourself — trailer after the jump!

Our friends over at Massively got a chance to talk to SOE’s Director of Development, Matt Wilson, about the latest developments concerning The Agency. Wilson reveals the following:

  • They are currently in “full alpha” and the plan is for a beta in the fall. They are also working towards a demo.
  • They haven’t decided between a subscription based financial model or a microtransaction one. However, Wilson noted that the PS3 is a console, and “console players don’t generally do subscriptions.”
  • The penalty for death will be “as lightweight as possible to begin with” since the player will die “frequently.” Penalty will mostly be in the form of lost gameplay time, but Wilson cites an example of after dying ten times, you’ll need to get fixed up at a field office, presumably losing extra time.
  • World events are planned, and SOE is hoping for content that “is easily playable for everyone” and accessible to players who do not invest as much time into the game.
  • Vehicle combat will take place. No other specific details are given.

With SOE coming out with two MMOs in the near future, do you think the PS3 will dominate as a console for that genre? Read the entire interview over at Massively.

Any graphic novel nerd will hold a special place for Alan Moore’s Watchmen. In addition to the upcoming movie (trailer, above), there will be a coinciding licensed game. Watchmen will be released as a two-part episodic title on XBLA, PSN and PC. The first part will release in tandem with the theatrical release, while the second will release in time for the DVD/Blu-ray release. This should, hopefully, give developers more time to work on a quality title.

“We don’t want a low-quality console game that will get lost at retail,” said WBIE senior veep of production and development Samantha Ryan. “A downloadable game allows us to deliver the experience that fans expect.” The Watchmen games are expected to be rated M.

After debuting on PC, XBLA and Mac earlier this year, many wondered why Penny Arcade Adventures was not coming out on PS3. Thankfully, developer Hothead Games has listened to your input and has announced a PS3 version will release on PSN later this year. “We keep getting emails asking why our Penny Arcade game is not on PSN,” said Hothead’s CEO, Vlad Ceraldi. “We have always said we wanted to have our games on as many platforms as possible to give choice to gamers. All good things take time and we are very excited to be debuting our first PS3 title and look forward to bringing more games to this platform in the future.”

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness is an RPG adventure game set in a 1920s pulp-horror universe, featuring many characters from the popular Penny Arcade webcomic series. The PS3 version of the game will be priced similarly to the release on XBLA and PC. See the very first images of the PS3 version in our new gallery.

Hands-on: Bionic Commando

Disclaimer: This preview is based on the Xbox 360 version of the game. Developers have told us the PS3 version will be identical to the Xbox 360 version.

Within moments of picking up the controller, this thought will ring immediately in your mind: this isn’t Spider-man. Capcom’s upcoming Bionic Commando may have you swinging from place to place, but the effect is completely different from Activision’s Spider-man games. Unlike those movie franchise titles, this title demands real skill out of players — so much so, in fact, that it was difficult for us to come to grip with the game’s unique controls (sorry for the pun).

Don’t expect to simply hold a trigger and jump around from place to place. You must actually aim where your bionic arm will extend to. You’ll have an extra reticule on-screen which shows what you can and cannot attach to. What surprised us the most was how short the bionic arm actually is: don’t expect to jump over large canyons in a single swing.
